Dentyne Champions 24-Hour Oral Care for South Africans

Why Oral Health in South Africa Requires More Than Twice-Daily Brushing

Dentists encourage South Africans to look beyond their twice-daily brushing routine and embrace oral care as a full-day commitment. With statistics from the South African Government indicating that gum disease ranks second only to the common cold in prevalence, affecting an estimated 90%* of citizens, the need for continuous oral hygiene has never been more pressing.

Dentyne Partners with Dental Experts to Shift Oral Care Habits

Dentyne has partnered with Dr Dineshen Govender, founder and co-owner of the Family Dental Care and The Smile Bar stores, to inform South Africans on the importance of maintaining oral health throughout the day, especially between morning and evening brushing.

Bhavir Doolabh, Dentyne Brand Manager, says, “The Easter occasion, filled with social activity,  is the perfect opportunity to deepen the conversation around the importance of oral care on-the-go. We want to empower people, particularly busy millennials, to understand that oral health isn’t just a two-minute task but a 24-hour ritual.”

The Hidden Risk: What Happens Between Brushing

According to Dr Govender, while brushing twice daily is essential, it’s not enough to fully protect teeth. “Your mouth is the gateway to the body and requires constant attention. From your morning coffee to snacks throughout the day, bacteria break down food particles and release acids that can lead to tooth decay and bad breath. The real risk often happens in the hours between brushing.”

How Dentyne Supports On-the-Go Oral Health

He adds that an overlooked factor is saliva, which plays a critical role in neutralising acids and protecting  teeth. A dry mouth increases the risk of oral health issues.

“Chewing sugar-free gum, such as Dentyne, which include ingredients such as xylitol, sodium stearate and fluoride that help with refreshing your mouth, promoting whiter teeth and cavity protection, is one of the easiest ways to support oral health on-the-go. By stimulating saliva production, food particles are washed away and acids neutralised. By chewing sugar-free gum after a meal or coffee, you’re not just freshening your breath, you are actively protecting your teeth. It’s a small daily habit that can make a meaningful long-term difference” explains Dr Govender.

#DentyneReady: The Confidence Behind a Healthy Smile

The ultimate benefit of a diligent, 24-hour oral care routine extends beyond physical health and affects confidence. A healthy mouth gives you the freedom to being the best version of yourself.

Doolabh says the #DentyneReady campaign highlights this connection, celebrating the self-assurance that comes from a healthy mouth. “Being #DentyneReady is about feeling prepared for everyday moments — knowing your breath is fresh and your smile is at its best.”
