Tightly tucked in between the bosom of the Drakensburg Mountain Range, Hazyview is a quaint town in Mpumalanga, South Africa, that still preserves its old-fashion charm. World-renowned for its bananas and macadamia nuts, you will immediately be treated to the site of never-ending plantations and forests that never cease to take my breath away.
A gateway to the Kruger National Park, Hazyview is the ideal holiday destination to refresh your mind and relax your soul. It has everything for most kinds of travellers including, but not limited to:
- Adventures
- Holidaymakers
- Photographers
And a definite for those who enjoy compiling and sticking to a good schedule!
Adventures
Having taken a Sho’t Left to Hazyview, I can (somewhat) confidently say I am officially an adventure girl! Granted, it was only two activities, but still – what a thrill!
Being no stranger to Graskop, I knew of the Big Swing. I knew of it, mind you, but did not know it as intimately as I do now. It was the 1st activity to blow my adrenal glands to smithereens with a drop that lasted approximately 3seconds. They also have a 135m Zipline that is less intense than the Big Swing. Get strapped in and fly over the gorge, letting you take in the scenes at a leisurely rate.
Afterwards, we made our way to Siyavaya Adventures. They promise fun all the way and, thus far, they are not lying. Another first for me was my 2nd activity of the day, which was quad biking. Honestly, before then, I didn’t think much about quad biking. On top of that, for some reason, all I could associate with quad biking were the Ruff Ryders. At this point, they were now living rent-free in my mind. Anyway, this off-road driving experience is more exciting than I had initially thought. The level of exhilaration is on a hundred and I cannot wait to do it again.
In addition to quad biking, Siyavaya Adventures also offers:
- White water rafting
- Paintball
- Archery
- Abseiling
Other activities that you can indulge in when you are in Hazyview include:
- Paintball shooting
- Elephant rides
- Tubing/Geckoing
- Hiking
- Horse riding
- Mountain biking
- Visit the reptile park
- Safari
- Taking part in the treetop challenge
Holidaymakers
The picturesque environment that is Hazyview makes it that much easier to make it your go-to holiday destination. An already popular Sho’t Left destination for most, Hazyview does not have a shortage of luxury accommodation. Feel free to do little to nothing as you recharge your batteries. Whether it is relaxing poolside with your favourite book or taking a break from the rat race by waking up an hour later – enjoy it as you may. At every turn, you will be greeted and romanced by the endless views of the reserve as it captivates you with its ecosystem in its entirety.
Mdluli Safari Lodge is such a place that holidaymakers can feel at ease. A luxury tented lodge situated in the Kruger National Park. It is like camping only with all of the amenities to make your stay more comfortable. Mdluli is a must and will have any holidaymaker feeling right at home.
I don’t know about you, but I can get used to waking up to the cuddles of soft bedding before being welcomed by the views of the reserve. Not to mention the day ahead that could include a spa treatment and a game drive that leads to a bush braai. Now that sounds like a pretty solid plan to me.
Photographers
Always in pursuit of the perfect picture? For The Gram, an exhibition, a book or just for your archives? Whatever your motivation may be, let Hazyview be your muse.
Relish in the excitement of being in the forest and on the game drives in the safari.
Find peace in the plantations and endless waterfalls and rivers.
Be in awe of the countless bird, insect and animal species that are all around.
Click and capture encapsulating the glory.
I definitely seized the moment and brought my gimble out to play. Do the same. Bring out all your gadgets to give yourself the competitive edge and creative reign to be as experimental as you want. Be sure to book into a lodge that has a safe lockbox, such as Mdluli Safari Lodge or Ndhula Lodge, for peace of mind.
Take a Sho’t Left to Hazyview and discover Mpumalanga – where nature is reserved and history preserved. Take the time to submerge yourself into the sanctuary, absorb and explore all that it has to offer. Who knows, you might discover another layer of what makes you so magical.
