The MATH Wine Club Sets a New Benchmark as Latest Experience Sells Out

Math Restaurant continues to set the benchmark in Johannesburg’s wine and culinary scene with yet another sold-out MATH Wine Club experience, reaffirming its reputation as a leading destination for refined yet welcoming wine culture.

Hosted at Waterfall Corner on Thursday, 23 October 2025, the evening offered guests an unforgettable four-course tasting journey, each course expertly paired with wines from Taaibosch Wines and Le Chant Wines.

An Evening of Refined Pairings and Culinary Artistry

A Fresh Start: Oysters and Chenin Blanc

Guests were welcomed with freshly shucked oysters paired with Le Chant Chenin Blanc, setting the tone for an evening defined by elegance and balance.
The crisp minerality of the wine enhanced the delicate oceanic notes of the oysters, creating a refreshing and sophisticated opening.

Earthy Depths: Wild Mushrooms and Rosé

The second course featured wild mushrooms, thoughtfully paired with Pink Valley Rosé.
The wine’s subtle floral notes and balanced acidity beautifully complemented the earthiness and umami of the mushrooms, delivering texture, depth, and harmony in every bite.

The Star Dish: Duck in Orange Glaze and Taaibosch Crescendo

The highlight of the evening was a perfectly glazed duck in orange sauce, served alongside Taaibosch Crescendo.
Guests described the pairing as “a masterstroke” and “breathtaking”.
The wine’s layered, aromatic profile elevated the rich, citrus-infused glaze, creating a memorable crescendo on the palate.

A Sweet Finale: Chocolate Cannoli and Le Chant Rouge

To conclude, guests indulged in velvety chocolate wrapped in cannoli, paired with Le Chant Rouge.
The combination offered a final moment of decadent indulgence, earning applause as the evening came to a close with satisfaction and style.

A Celebration of Connection and Craft

Wine is not just about the glass, it’s about the people, the stories, and the shared experience. To see every seat filled and every course met with such excitement is exactly why we created the MATH Wine Club, to bring people together through world-class South African hospitality.

Puleng Mathabathe, Founder of Math Restaurant

Puleng Mathabathe’s words captured the essence of the evening, a gathering where exceptional food, fine wine, and genuine connection came together to define modern South African hospitality.
