YBNL Nation boss Olamide and singer-songwriter CKay have joined forces to release a lavish summer anthem, ‘Trumpet’.
Produced by the young hotshot producer P. Priime, ‘Trumpet’ is a smooth Afrobeats tune that merges everything fans all over the world have come to love about the genre, including its bouncy and melodic elements, with pop and hip-hop inflexions. Olamide and CKay fans will recognize both artists’ signature sounds in ‘Trumpet’. The rapper’s laidback sound, which often tilts towards the hip-hop side, is complemented by CKay’s dreamy emo-Afrobeats fantasy. The tune is currently at the top of Spotify’s African Heat and Apple Music’s Naija Hits playlists, among other notable playlists, including Apple Music’s Top 25: Lagos and Top 100: Nigeria charts.
To illustrate the song’s luxurious energy, director Jyde Ajala chose Malibu as the backdrop. The visuals open with the infamous Hollywood sign and rest in a grand L.A. mansion. Hollywood’s landscape becomes both the Nigerian superstars’ playground as they enjoy ultimate ease for three minutes and eleven seconds. The video has already garnered over 2.1 million views on YouTube since its premiere on Friday, April 20th.
CKay first shared snapshots of himself in L.A. in February with stars including Olamide, Roddy Rich, and Janelle Monaè, hinting at possible collaborations in 2023. ‘Trumpet‘ seems to be the first of the new music the superstar is set to release this year. Collaborating with Olamide has always been on CKay’s list, with the star sharing on a recent Instagram post that reads, ‘I’ve wanted to make music with Olamide for a really long time, but the time was never right until now. Exciting times!’
