Nothing puts pressure on your significant other quite like a birthday, Christmas and (tada) Valentine’s Day. To make matters worse, that very very VERY special day is at an inopportune time- like Valentine’s day. It is right in the middle of the month (I know right?!) when the poverty line is already getting to close for comfort, and now you have to spend money on unnecessary things that mean absolutely bollocks.
Luckily for you- I have come to your rescue. As much as I love gifts probably more than the next person, I do believe there is no need to break your bank just for one day to make your significant other feel special.
Should you not have disposal income just lying around, I do have a few (cheesy) suggestions on how to make her (or him) feel special.
If your better half loves being pampered, then do just that. Instead of dishing out hundreds of rands at a spa; create the perfect setting at your own home. All you’ll need is a couple of candles, flower petals, soft music and baby oil. You can give them a well-deserved massage and this will create an opportunity for the two of you to be intimate. Take it a step further by painting their nails with their favourite nail polish colour after a lovely foot massage.
Should your significant other love to wine and dine then a simple picnic will illuminate their day. Be sure to pack all of their favourites for the picnic basket. To add a little of an edge to your surprise, why not blindfold them as you lead them to the “secret location”? This can be your local (free) park or even the rooftop of your building. Your partner is sure to love the romantic gesture and the effort you will put into it.
If you really want to give your partner a memorable gift, you best pull your sleeves up and just get crafty with it. Here you can go absolutely ballistic- make a card, key ring, or even a photo frame to place a special picture in.
Valentine’s Day does not mean you have to spend obscene amounts of money just to make your partner feel special. It truly just requires you to pay special attention to your most loved and cherished one.
Cheers to you & yours, and I hope y’ll have a splendid one!
