The tragic killing of up-and-coming young star Sibusiso Khwinana has shocked and saddened South Africans. Having demonstrated his talent in his recent role as the lead actor of hit film Matwetwe, Khwinana seemed destined for a stellar future. His sudden death comes as a crushing loss to his friends, family and the world of film.

Ster-Kinekor has, therefore, come together with leaders of the local film and entertainment industry to commemorate the life of this exceptionally talented South African.

On the 13th and 14th of March 2019, Ster-Kinekor will screen Matwetwe at 13 cinemas based in Gauteng, Limpopo and Mpumalanga, so that everyone has the chance to experience the young actor’s riveting performance.

Tickets for this special screening will be half-price, and the funds raised through their sale will go to Khwinana’s family and film industry youth initiatives.

Ster-Kinekor will also contribute towards the training of rising young actors through Actor Spaces, an organisation run by Ayanda Sithebe, in memory of Khwinana. “We feel that supporting young talent in Sibusiso’s name is the best way available to us to honour him,” says Ster-Kinekor Chief of Marketing and Sales Motheo Matsau. “Losing a young person is always deeply upsetting; we lose not only the person but everything that they might have achieved in the future – and Sibusiso’s future looked bright. Our deepest condolences go out to his family.”
