Black Crown X Scorpion Kings for a African celebration fit for royalty

November 3, 2021

October 2021 saw the union of Black Crown and Scorpion Kings come together to celebrate International G&T Day with a proudly African affair at Bryanston Rooftop. Surrounded by the golden hour, Black Crown launched its exclusive tunes collab with Amapiano heavyweights, DJ Maporisa and Kabza De Small. You can enjoy these tunes that are now available on Spotify.

Anele Zondo kept guests informed entertained while DJ Roxpaperzscissors and Don Design also kept the beat steady under the feet of friends of Black Crown. In addition to the drum beats and percussions of Amapiano, guests were also treated to artistic visuals courtesy of  Black Crown’s own:

General Manager for Black Crown, Claudia Schmid, says the idea behind African partnerships springs from Black Crown’s brand. It is an innovative African team effort breaking boundaries and setting benchmarks even though still in its infancy. “Like it takes a village to raise a child. It took a diverse and passionate team of brewers, marketers and supply chain specialists, amongst others, to produce Black Crown. Partnering with African legends for success is therefore who we are and what we do.”

Black Crown – crisp with a burst of innovation

The innovative product is borne out of SAB’s innovation hub called ZX Ventures. Grant Pereira Director at ZX Ventures, says working on the innovation reminded him of an important quote by Francis of Assisi. It said, “Start by doing what’s necessary, then do what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible”.

The proudly South African Black Crown Gin & Tonic is produced in Cape Town. It is made with locally produced citrus fruits and has a slightly sweet, crisp taste. Perfect for these summer days.

The collaboration embraces and celebrates Africanism in a proudly South African way. It fits the Black Crown Gin & Tonic ethos and further solidifies the symbiotic relationship between Amapiano music and chill experiences.

Gugu Dlamini, Marketing Lead for Black Crown, explains that in order to achieve growth, “We had to carefully select our team, challenge ourselves, reframe our mindset and re-engineer the processes at SAB breweries to produce this ready to enjoy gin and tonic crown jewel.”

She says that Black Crown is now determined to help others break down barriers. To open fresh perspectives and inspire people to re-think the norm into an authentically African outcome. Collaborating with the Scorpion Kings and bringing the brand first exclusively Amapiano playlist to Spotify is just one innovative African way in which to achieve that.

Dlamini says, “Black Crown unapologetically celebrates African pride and so intends to continue inspiring young Africans to remain authentic and grounded in an absolute belief in self. A royal state of mind. How better to bring this to life than collaborating with the truly African sound of Scorpion Kings?!”
