Huawei Joburg Day in the Park is set to kick-start the 2020 South African music-festival calendar off on high spirits with a cultured musical experience. This will take place on Saturday, 16 May 2020 at the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens in Emmerentia. Legendary band Bongo Maffin, Prime Circle and new age sensation Ami Faku are among the local musical stars confirmed to perform at this exciting family day of sound, sun and summer vibes. “I’m very excited. Last year I was there, but I wasn’t booked to perform, so I’m glad that this year I get to perform. I am very thankful,” Ami Faku commented when asked what it means to her to be performing on one of Joburg’s biggest stages. When asked if she was nervous in any way, shape or form she honestly smiled and said “Yeah. Like any other performance is nerve-wracking so even this one. All the time I am stressed before a performance”.
Following hugely successful Huawei Joburg Day in the Park events since 2017, this 2020 fourth annual Huawei Joburg Day in the Park will boast a contingent of ten local artists. They are definitely bound to place us in a state of euphoria at this family-friendly setting where all will experience beautiful sound sensations. The festival will feature an array of musical genres from the upcoming afro-pop soul musician Ami Faku to the rock electro sounds of Jesse Clegg. BET’s latest best international act winner, Sho Madjozi, will be there sharing the stage with South African music royalty, acclaimed Kwaito music group Bongo Maffin! Oh my gosh! You have to come and see this!
Joining the ranks will be indie singer-songwriter Josh McDonald, better known as Jeremy Loops and Halley Rey to add some extra flavour and spice to the line-up.
Huawei Joburg Day in the park has become a major showcase of South African music excellences in the industry and gives fans a chance to support and to experience their music icons live.
Thando Makhunga, 947 station manager, said 947 is a proudly Joburg brand and Huawei Joburg Day in the Park affords the station the chance to support local music on the biggest stage. “Every year, thousands of music fans join us in a beautiful Joburg park to have an epic party and we up the ante with an A-list line-up and 2020 will be no different. We’re especially excited to welcome the legendary Bongo Maffin to the Huawei Joburg Day stage for the very first time as well as familiar favourites Jeremy Loops, Sho Madjozi, Prime Circle, Black Motion and DJ Kent,” Makhunga concluded.
