December 2, 2025

Math Restaurant Crafts an Unforgettable Journey With Another Sold-Out Evening At The Wine Club

Math Restaurant continues to set the standard for Johannesburg’s evolving wine culture, delivering another sold-out edition of the MATH Wine Club, a signature experience that blends elegant dining with community-driven connection. Hosted on Thursday, 20 November at Waterfall Corner, the evening unfolded as a slow, intentional celebration of taste, texture, and togetherness, reaffirming Math as one of the city’s most inviting destinations for modern, relaxed luxury.

A Warm Welcome, Even in the Rain

Not even a touch of summer rain could slow down the eager members of the MATH Wine Club. Instead, guests arrived with a sense of anticipation, ready for an intimate journey curated around exceptional wines from Aslina, one of South Africa’s most celebrated labels.

Course-by-Course: A Culinary and Wine Experience

Coastal Freshness Meets Crisp Sauvignon Blanc

The night opened with a coastal-inspired entrée of mussels, shrimp, and calamari in a silky Napolitana sauce. The pairing: Aslina Sauvignon Blanc, whose bright, crisp acidity lifted the dish effortlessly and set the tone for the evening ahead.

Charred Earthiness with a Chardonnay Glow

The second course introduced a vibrant expression of colour and earthiness: char-grilled carrots and beets over spicy hummus, finished with delicate feta crumbs. This was beautifully balanced by the rounded warmth of the Aslina Chardonnay 2023, creating a layered, grounded moment in the menu.

A Bold Centrepiece with Umsasane Blanc 2023

As conversations deepened and glasses refilled, the evening moved into its fuller-bodied chapter. Mint-crusted lamb with chipotle sauce and corn salsa was served. The pairing was the undeniable crowd favourite of the night: Umsasane Blanc 2023 – an expressive blend named in honour of the winemaker’s grandmother.

A Light, Citrus Finale

Dessert offered a refreshing close: a citrus and berries Eton Mess layered with Chantilly cream and berry compote. Paired with the elegant depth of the Aslina Cabernet Sauvignon 2022, it brought the evening full circle.

The MATH Wine Club Spirit

The warmth and intimacy of the evening echoed a sentiment Math Restaurant has honed over time. There is a sense of belonging.

“There’s a beautiful sense of community that unfolds at every MATH Wine Club. We want our guests to feel like they’re enjoying a glass in their own living room, comfortable, welcomed, and part of something shared. That spirit of su casa, mi casa is at the heart of what we do.” – Puleng Mathabathe, Founder of Math Restaurant
