Wrap up the year the right way with byMaletsatsi

November 13, 2019

Whether you call it a headwrap, tuku or turban, over the years the doek – as it is famously known in South Africa – has been used for years. First, as a sign of oppression and poverty, it has morphed into a symbol of power, fashion and religion amongst many all over the world.

Celebrating all that the doek encompasses, the upcoming byMaletsatsi Wrap Party Picnic will take place on the 30th of November and 28th of December in Johannesburg at 27 Boxes in Melville and Phuthaditjhaba, Free State respectively.

The byMaletsatsi Wrap Party Picnics started in 2016 as an initiative movement for the founder to get up-close-and-personal with the members of her blog community as well as the growing supportive clientele – all passionately called the byMaletsatsi Tribe. “byMaletsatsi is a concept born from my passion for celebrating women. With this concept, I also wanted to inspire women who are still exploring and searching for themselves as I am myself. The ultimate goal here is to have my fellow sisters join me in my quest and also share their experiences – while rocking my doeks akere,” says Selloane Maletsatsi Moleli, founder of byMaletsatsi.

This year marked the 5th edition of the event that took place in Women’s Month on the 10th of August 2019. Amongst the byMaletsatsi Tribe, Maletsatsi also invited fellow female lead entrepreneurs to showcase their SME businesses while socializing with the tribe. Brands involved included:

The event was attended by over 35 tribe members with the first 10 arrivals enjoying goodie bags that included a:

  • byMaletsatsi doek
  • Sta-Sof-Fro hair products
  • ORS Hair Care
  • uLove Intimates vouchers
  • Inspired Fitness vouchers

The November event will be celebrated after the socially claimed National Head Wrap Day, which takes place annually on the 20th of November. This is a day where women from all over the world are encouraged and invited to join the movement by wearing their headwraps and share selfies of their favourite styles on social media using hashtags #NationalHeadWrapDay and #NHWD. Dear Bella will be joining the event yet again in support of Maletsatsi’s vision in empowering women and young girls. Dear Bella helps females access affordable sanitary pads, giving them the freedom to be active and productive citizens of society.

If you are all about socialising, meeting and mingling with women alike then save the date!

Get your free tickets on Quicket, pack a picnic basket, camp chair or blanket and come through. Be sure to rock your doek and sit with this tribe – fellas, this goes for you too.
