The Joburg Film Festival – A showcase of world-class films from 35+ countries

The Joburg Film Festival, powered by Multichoice, is set to take place in the heart of Johannesburg from January 31st to February 5th, 2023. The festival will showcase some of the finest films from over 35 countries across the globe, including 20 African premieres and 27 South African premieres. The opening film, XALE, directed by Moussa Sene Absa, is a masterpiece that immerses the viewer into a storyline of family values, love, life, and betrayal.

The festival will feature films from a diverse range of countries, with a mix of feature films and documentaries showcasing stories that cross cultural boundaries. These countries will including:

  • South Africa
  • Tunisia
  • Brazil
  • Seoul
  • USA
  • Japan
  • Morocco 

Tumi Masekela, Executive Head of Corporate Affairs at MultiChoice South Africa, said, “As a truly African brand, MultiChoice is proud to once again be partnering with the Joburg Film Festival. Joburg Film Festival partners with Brand South Africa

Brand South Africa has also teamed up with the Joburg Film Festival to highlight the contribution of the Arts, Culture, and Creative Industries in positively strengthening the Nation’s Brand. Mpumi Mabuza, Chief Marketing Officer (Acting) at Brand South Africa said, “We believe that it is important to strengthen the film and entertainment industry and shine a spotlight on one of South Africa’s key strengths as a creative hub on the continent through showcasing Africa’s capabilities to produce world-class, high-quality, and authentic stories from Africa to the world.”

The festival will take place at various locations across the city, including:

  • Ster Kinekor Sandton – Sandton City Mall
  • Maponya Mall – Soweto
  • Cinema Nouveau Rosebank – Rosebank Mall
  • The Bioscope – Maboneng
  • Theatre on the Square – Nelson Mandela Square

Tickets for the 60+ films being screened are now on sale via the JFF website and are available for R80 via Quicket.co.za.
