Clarins Skin Illusion Full Coverage Foundation: Celebrate Southern Africa’s Beauty with Skincare-Infused Makeup
The Shades of Southern Africa campaign
Clarins has recently launched its Skin Illusion Full Coverage Foundation – an ode to Southern Africa and all our beautiful shades. The Shades of Southern Africa campaign speaks to Clarins’ commitment to diversity, inclusion, and representation, the foundation is a celebration of all the beautiful skin tones, ages, and identities that make up our beautiful community.
The Clarins Skin Illusion Full Coverage Foundation is made with you in mind and how to accentuate your already natural beauty. It can be found in 24 shades in-store and 28 online, plus an additional shade launching in July.

Beauty That Thrives in Authenticity
As someone who believes beauty thrives in authenticity—not behind layers of makeup or facades—I appreciate Clarins’ philosophy. The foundation’s buildable formula (from medium to full coverage) aligns with the idea that makeup should enhance, not conceal.
Nthabiseng Makhokha, Clarins’ communications specialist, says it best: “For me, beauty is not reflected in a singular shade. It’s a spectrum.” Every person in the campaign was chosen because they each embody a unique type of beauty, showcasing Clarins’ commitment to inclusivity and empowerment. As Nthabiseng continues, “Your skin tells a story of individuality, and your foundation should do the same by enhancing, rather than masking, your natural glow.”

Skincare Meets Makeup: The Power of Skinification
Not Just Foundation — Clarins Skin Illusion Full Coverage Foundation doubles as a skincare product. Blending the best of both worlds, Clarins has incorporated skincare products into its foundation. The trend is known as Skinification. It transforms the foundation into a product that leaves your skin looking luminous with a flawless, lasting finish.
The skinification properties in the foundation are not just for show but have real skincare benefits over extended use. According to a recent study, women who used the foundation for 28 days saw a 29% reduction in skin imperfections and a 10% decrease in shine. That’s because no less than 80% of the foundation’s formula is made up of powerful skincare ingredients.
Meeting the Modern Beauty Standard
Clarins Marketing and Digital Executive Bronwen Olivier says that the foundation speaks to many of the concerns of today’s women. “Women want to look pulled together, but have had enough of the mask-like foundation look. They are tired of hiding their perceived flaws, and are ready to look like themselves; however, they still want that matte finish and radiant glow. Enter Clarins Skin Illusion: the latest in our continuing projects and efforts to answer the needs of our customers in South Africa. This foundation has all the benefits of skincare, plus a hydrating and long-lasting formula to take our women, and men, through their day into the night! More responsible packaging is an added plus.”

Isabel Martins, CEO of Clarins South Africa, agrees that the foundation embodies all that the brand stands for. “These past few years, we have focused on being more ‘Clarins’ than ever, going back to our roots and to what makes our brand so special: our skincare expertise, our plant-based inspiration, and our belief that true beauty is authentic. This is what this campaign is all about: celebrating authentic, natural beauty with beautiful, inspiring South African women and men, from all ages and backgrounds.
More than a foundation, Skin Illusion embodies Clarins’ mission: celebrating authenticity through innovative, skin-loving formulas. Paired with sustainable packaging, it’s a product that doesn’t just beautify—it empowers.
