In celebration of Women’s Month, Miss Heritage Global hosted a cocktail event on Friday the 5th of August. It was in honour of Winnie Madikizela Mandela‘s legacy while also celebrating women who have made significant contributions to South Africa’s heritage.
The event, which was held at Ubuntu Kraal in Soweto, was a true African Celebration. Guests were proudly dressed in their African heritage-themed attires while enjoying music and entertainment centred on celebrating South African heritage.
Mrs Mbofholowo Mbodi, Chief Executive Officer of Miss Heritage Global welcomed the guests. She stated that they are not only celebrating uMama Winnie Madikizela Mandela but also women all over the world who are proud of their heritage and culture.
The event was attended by media personalities including Gabriel Temudzani known as Chief Azwindini and Sydney Ramakuwela known as Mulalo in the SABC 2 soapie Muvhango, Sipho Ndlovu known as Sambulo in the Showmax series The Wife. The current reigning Miss Soweto – Ludina Ngwenya and Miss Heritage South Africa Zabelo Hlabisa.
Guests enjoyed a diverse mix of refreshments including a South African-inspired traditional lunch, a prosecco tasting experience hosted by Valdo prosecco, which brought a touch of Italy to the event, and of course beer, which is a must at any African celebration. The beer of choice for this event was Amstel lager, a rich malty beer which expertly balances timeless taste with refreshment, perfect for this kind of celebration.
Mrs Mbhofolowo Mbodi added that the significance of the event is to recognise women, whose voices and deeds have fallen silent and are in danger of being forgotten from our historical narrative, such as the iconic Winnie Madikizela Mandela, and to also inspire a generation of women who are proud of their heritage and cultural roots.
“Our tagline is Unity in Diversity, and that is our ethos, which is why we have such a diverse audience today. Thank you so much for accepting our invitation, and please mark your calendars because the well-known pageant is set to take place in South Africa on the 24th of September in Kalahari Waterfront, and this year’s theme is #SheLeads, emphasizing the pageant’s belief in creating an African generation and advocating for a world where women lead and are not victims of gender-based violence” added Ronald Tisauke, the Founder of Miss Heritage Global.
Guests were amazed by various performances, including the cultural dance group Ditau Tsa Koma and spoken word poetry performed by poet Soul Food, who closed the event with an influential and effective performance praising the richness and beauty of South Africa’s heritage, culture, and appeal.
Celebrated businessman and Chairman of Miss Heritage Global, Mr Nhlanhla Shabangu closed off the event by highlighting the excitement around the Miss Heritage Global pageant being hosted in South Africa this year, with it being a proudly South African international pageant.
